Nigerians react after Yusuf Buhari received NYSC certificate at home

Many Nigerians have reacted after Yusuf, son of President Muhammadu Buhari, received his NYSC discharge certificate at home. Yusuf Buhari just completed his national youth service and was among the Batch ‘A’ corps members that passed out on Thursday. A picture of Yusuf being handed his own certificate at home by an NYSC official appeared on social media on Friday, attracting different reactions from Nigerians. Many of them were not impressed by the home delivery service of the certificate to the President’s son while some few others don’t see anything wrong in that. Man sues Ugandan University for banning miniskirts, ‘make-up’, others

A man has sued Bugema University, Luweero District, Kampala, for banning all female students from wearing dresses above the knee, jewelry, lipstick, sleeveless and open tops, coloured nails, trouser, within the school premises. In the suit before the High Court, the petitioner, Mr Ronald Bwire, claims that on December 12, 2018, the University issued a notice banning female students from wearing miniskirts, ear rings, necklaces, bangles, sleeveless and open tops, coloured nails, lipsticks, trousers and dresses that stop above the knee. Bugema University announced the ban in a notice dated December 12, 2018. “No student should come back with the above mentioned next semester. Culprits will face university disciplinary committee for serious action,”  the notice warns. ASUU continues with Indefinite Strike

The  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)  has announced that it will continue to embark on its indefinite strike action. Punch  reports that this was stated after the union met with the Federal Government at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. The president of the union  Biodun Ogunyemi  told reporters that the strike hasn’t been suspended. He said: We have not suspended the strike, the discussion will continue at a later date. We are going back to our members for further consultation. FG gave us reaction to our proposals but there were still grey areas that we are trying to sort out. Before the strike can be suspended, the most critical area that FG must address is revitalization. It is central to our academic work, unless that area is addressed, our members will still have issues. President Buhari explains why we still have 'out-of-school children' known as 'Almajiris' in the North

President Buhari has explained why the country is still experiencing the problem of out-of-school children, known as Almajiri in the North. During a town hall session tonight in Abuja, the President said the state and local governments have not been fulfilling their own part of the bargain.   “Federal Government gives money to state and local governments and they’re the ones who can take care of the Almajiri issue, but because they didn’t do their job, that’s why we still have the issue of Almajiris”the President said. Reports however indicate that more than N67bn earmarked by the Federal Government between 2005 and 2017 for the Universal Basic Education scheme has yet to be accessed.
