President Buhari's ADC Profile: Mohammed Lawal, ML Abubakar Biography & Life History

Behind every successful man, they say, is a woman. Behind every successful president, we can say, is his aide-de-camp (ADC). Mohammed Abubakar, an army colonel, is the man behind President Muhammadu Buhari. One of those men whose words we don’t hear, but who emits golden silence. Abubakar was born on March 28, 1973, in Zaria, Kaduna state, to inter-ethnic parents from Edo and Kano states. HEAD BOY LIKE BUHARI Abubakar attended Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria from 1985–1990. Perhaps, as part of the workings of fate, Abubakar served as the head boy known as “Boy Regimental Sergeant Major” of his set, a position manned by Buhari decades back. ‘INTELLIGENT TO THE HIGHEST ORDER’ After his appointment as ADC in 2015, Nigerians took to social media to congratulate him. Some recognised him as their camp commandant during their National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). Bashir Ahmad, a Facebook user, who identified him as his camp commandant in 2006 in Kogi, describe...

“I don’t feel safe in my office” – Remi Tinubu

Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District  Remi Tinubu  has lamented to the Senate that she doesn’t feel safe in her office. The Cable  reports that Tinubu, speaking before the Senate, revealed that she resumed her office in 2019 to find some “anomalies”. On Wednesday 9th January 2019, my staff upon resumption noticed some anomalies in the organisation and setup of the office prompting an inspection. It was discovered that one HP laptop computer, CCTV camera box, one Smile internet device and copies of the laws of the federation had been carted away. Subsequently, a report was lodged at the police post of the national assembly. I’m requesting two things from the senate, the leadership of the senate and sympathy that the senate is to direct that volumes one to 14 of the laws of the federation and CCTV box carted away be replaced. Also the senate should thoroughly investigate the matter and security arrangement of the national assembly t...

Fascinating story of former wives of Boko Haram fighters who prefer life with the terrorists than in IDP camps

n this piece by Guardian UK, the newspaper delves into the lives of Zahra and Amina - not their real names - former wives of Boko Haram fighters who find themselves disillusioned with life in IDP camps. They say life with the militants was harsh and uncertain, but they had enough to eat and were protected from sexual abuse unlike in the IDP camps where they suffer hunger and are sexually exploited by the security forces who guard them. According to Amina, most Boko Haram women regret coming to the camp because life is just so hard. Read the piece below.   Zahra and Amina seem like lucky survivors of the scourge of northeastern Nigeria, the jihadist movement known as Boko Haram. Both were wives of fighters. Zahra escaped by agreeing to detonate an explosive vest that the militants strapped to her. After walking miles to her intended target, a government checkpoint, she turned herself over to soldiers. Amina fled with her three children after her hus...
