Again, court grants bail to Dino Melaye on the condition that he's not to leave the country without a written application to the court

A Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu has granted bail to Senator Dino Melaye who was arraigned on an eight-count charge of evading arrest, conspiracy, resistance to arrest, failure to honour police invitation and intentionally giving false information to the public.  While ruling on the application  filed by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Justice Halilu held that the essence of bail could not be overemphasized, saying that it was meant to make a defendant to stand for trial.  According to him, in granting a defendant bail, the court has to consider the nature of the charge, the antecedent of the bail applicant, among others. The judge, therefore, upheld the earlier bail granted the Melaye on January 18 and added that Melaye should not leave the shores of the country without a written application to the court.  The judge also directed Ozekhome to warn his client to ensure that he does not comment on the matter before the court in any media...

“I don’t feel safe in my office” – Remi Tinubu

Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District  Remi Tinubu  has lamented to the Senate that she doesn’t feel safe in her office. The Cable  reports that Tinubu, speaking before the Senate, revealed that she resumed her office in 2019 to find some “anomalies”. On Wednesday 9th January 2019, my staff upon resumption noticed some anomalies in the organisation and setup of the office prompting an inspection. It was discovered that one HP laptop computer, CCTV camera box, one Smile internet device and copies of the laws of the federation had been carted away. Subsequently, a report was lodged at the police post of the national assembly. I’m requesting two things from the senate, the leadership of the senate and sympathy that the senate is to direct that volumes one to 14 of the laws of the federation and CCTV box carted away be replaced. Also the senate should thoroughly investigate the matter and security arrangement of the national assembly t...

Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Friday raised concern over his safety and those of his political supporters in his state, Kwara. Saraki, Director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, at a news conference in Abuja, accused the security agencies of giving cover to people who were unleashing violence on the supporters of the PDP across the state. Saraki said that the police had continued to show hostility to him and his supporters in Kwara State as part of efforts to jeopardise and undermine his personal security and that of his immediate and larger family. The Senate President cited three incidents to illustrate his fear about his security, alleged that on Thursday, some supporters and thugs of the APC attacked PDP supporters at Adewole/Adeta, Ilorin, who were holding their weekly ward meetings. “They disrupted the meetings by shouting their party slogan and when our people responded by mentioning our own slogan, they fired gun sho...
