'Prepare for consequences of your action' - DSS tells IPOB

The Department of State Services has warned those behind the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra to have a rethink or be prepared to face the consequences of their action.   According to the service, it is prepared to maintain adequate security across Nigeria, saying it will not allow any person or group to obstruct the freedom of law-abiding citizens. Spokesperson for the DSS, Peter Afunnaya, said this in a telephone interview with Punch, in Abuja, on Friday.   He was reacting to the May 30 sit-at-home order given by the IPOB in the South-East. Afunnaya said, “The service will not condone people taking the law into their hands and obstructing the freedom of others. Court orders police to explain why Dino Melaye is still being detained

An Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama today ordered the police to show cause over it’s continued detention of Senator Dino Melaye who has been in police custody since January 4th. Justice Yusuf Halilu gave the order after Melaye’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) informed the court that his client has been in police custody since Jan. 4 against what the law stipulated. “We are talking about the liberty of a citizen not because he is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but a citizen, this is contrary to sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution of Nigeria. “If you keep a man for 13 days you have already presumed him guilty, ” he submitted. Simon Lough, the respondent counsel, told the court that he only got the motion on notice on January 16, and needed five days according to law to reply. How new IGP stopped Imohimi’s redeployment from Lagos

A statement from the Lagos state police command has indicated that the acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, was the one who stopped the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edgal Imohimi. Imohimi was meant to hand over to the new Commissioner, Kayode Egbetokun, today January but the handing over was stopped after a call from Abuja. Defense counsel explains why Dino Melaye was absent from court today

Dino Melaye's absence in court on Monday stalled his trial in the ongoing alleged false information case before Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of an Abuja Federal High Court.   Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, is facing two counts bordering on giving false information to the Police. The Prosecuting Counsel, Shuaib Labaran, had arraigned Melaye, alleging that the defendant had, sometime in April, 2017, deliberately given false information to the Police.     Labaran alleged that Melaye had deliberately volunteered information that incriminated David Onoja, Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Governor, as the mastermind of an assassination attempt on him. Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Friday raised concern over his safety and those of his political supporters in his state, Kwara. Saraki, Director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, at a news conference in Abuja, accused the security agencies of giving cover to people who were unleashing violence on the supporters of the PDP across the state. Saraki said that the police had continued to show hostility to him and his supporters in Kwara State as part of efforts to jeopardise and undermine his personal security and that of his immediate and larger family. Dino Melaye surrenders to police

Eight days after the police laid siege outside his Abuja home, embattled Senator Dino Melaye has finally surrendered to the police. Some senators paid Dino a visit inside the Maitama home on Friday, January 4th and afterwards escorted him to the Police headquarters to meet with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris. The police stormed Dino Melaye home last Friday December 28th with the hope of arresting him for a case of attempted murder. The police allege that Dino and his "thugs" attempted to murder a police officer in Kogi in July 2018. Dino has since denied the allegation.

Court rejects Dino Melaye’s application to remove police from his house

A Federal High Court, in Abuja, has dismissed an application filed by embattled senator Dino Melaye for the court to issue an order for the removal of police blockade on his Abuja residence. Melaye approached the court through his lawyer, Nkem Okoro of the Mike Ozekhome (SAN) chambers, for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights. The court had subsequently fixed today for the hearing of the ex-parte application filed together with the enforcement of his fundamental human rights’ suit. In the ex-parte application, Melaye asked the court for an interim order of the court directing the police to vacate his residence and remove all blockades in front of the residence and allow his family and political associates to have access to him. He prayed the court to issue an order restraining the police from further threatening his life or putting his life in jeopardy pending the determination of the substantive suit. Just In: IGP Idris Removes CP, 14 Other Personnel In Imo State Command

Source Confirms IGP Removal Of Imo State Police Boss And Transfer To Bauchi State A reshuffle may be going on in the Imo State Police Command as the Inspector General of Police,Ibrahim  Idris,  has removed the Imo State Commissioner of Police ,  Dasuki Galadanchi   and some other key officers. The Police Boss also removed the three Deputy Commissioners of Police in the Command who were in charge of the Operations and State Criminal and Investigation Departments of the Command. The IGP also removed 11 out of the 14 Assistant Commissioners of Police in the Command. The affected ACPs included  Area commanders  and others heading strategic departments in the Command headquarters.
